City Wide of Minnesota
Maintenance Firm Awarded, Vying for Top Spot
July 27, 2011
BLOOMINGTON, Min: The age-old axiom of ’whoever wants it more’ seems to be the driving force behind the quickly growing Minnesota based facility services company. City Wide Maintenance of Minnesota was recently awarded the 2010 Best Small Business Award from the Minneapolis Regional Chamber, but company president Greg Mansfield isn’t satisfied quite yet. “We want to be the No. 1 provider of facility services for the mid-range commercial property in town,“ Mansfield said.
City Wide Maintenance of Minnesota, which opened its doors in 2006 by Mansfield, father Dick and his wife Kelly, now manages cleaning and maintenance contracts for more that 125 properties in the area and exceeded $3 million in revenue last year. Mansfield’s office is a relatively small operation with around a dozen employees of varying responsibilities, and pulls in three quarters of its billings from repeat business. “Once we get an opportunity, we’re able to secure business almost 50 percent of the time,“ says Mansfield.
Mansfield has high hopes for the future of the office, projecting between $3 and $4 million by years end and wants to expand the company’s area market share from 1 to 3 percent by going after 50,000 to 100,000 square foot buildings lacking facility managers in 2011. “We’re looking for people that really need to take care of their facility and require somebody to help manage and make sure the crew is doing the job correctly,“ says Mansfield.
Mansfield believes that there are a few unique strategies that will help his company achieve its goals such as new mobile device software to track property data and cutting dead weight by removing inactive email subscribers from their email marketing lists. These strategies for success come in addition to the trend towards companies pinching pennies by outsourcing maintenance work to specialized firms, which has helped increase business by nearly 45 percent, Mansfield says.
